The Other Side

SERGENT DAVIS: Unscheduled offworld activation!

AIRMAN: (To other airmen) Move, move, move, move, MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SAM: (To Davis) I still can't make it out ... try to filter out the subspace RF interference.

JACK: Carter.

SAM: Colonel! Sir, this is the 5th incoming wormhole in the last hour and a half.

JACK: All right, I'm here 2 hours early ... When did YOU get here?

SAM: (Looking away) I ... haven't left yet.

JACK: Didn't I ORDER you to get a life?

SAM: Yes, Sir, you did ... but, you see ...

DANIEL: I just heard ... they sent a RADIO signal this time? (Jack's looking at Danny strangely)

SAM: Yeah, but the frequency they're using is just outside the range of our equipment. We're trying to make the adjustment.

JACK: (To Daniel) What are YOU doing here?

DANIEL: Well, someone's trying to contact US ... how often does THAT happen?

DAVIS: We can recieve now, Major.

SAM: OK, pipe it thru the speakers, and ... try to match it so we can transmit back.

MAN: This is the Urondan base ... have you reached the other side?

SAM: Oh, my God!

Man continues asking for other man. I can't understand ... no closed captioning! I'm doing it from an ASF! He said something about going thru the portal ...

SAM: This is Major Carter of the United States Air Force. It is IMPERATIVE that you send NO ONE else thru the gate! (Man continues talking!)

DAVIS: He can't hear you, Major. We still haven't matched the frequency. (Man continues)

MAN: We believe this STARGATE is a portal to the home of our ansesters ... (Indistinct) Our supplies are all but gone ... our defences are on the verge of collapse ... help us ... please!

SAM: (After the gate shuts down) (Quietly) Damn! (To Davis) All right! There were 4 offworld activations prier to this one, and the iris was closed the whole time ... How many impact events did the computer record?

DAVIS: (Checks on computer) (Somberly) 3. (Sam closes her eyes)

JACK: So ... 3 dead.

SAM: (Crying?) (Somberly) Yes, Sir.

DANIEL: I'm ... gonna ... go ... look up Euronda. (He walks away)

JACK: (Noting Carter's tears) Not your fault, Carter ... (Touches her shoulder?) Move on.

SAM: (Quietly) Yes, Sir.

Opening Credits ...

MAN: (Still mostly inaudible) You kindred are besiged by an enemy ... supplies all but gone ... our defences ... Help us, please!

HAMMOND: All right, assuming they make contact again ... assuming they transmit the coordinates to their world, What kind of help can we seriously offer?

DANIEL: Well, uh ... food ... clothing ... medical supplies ...

TEAL'C: Clearly they seek military assistance above all else.

HAMMOND: Lord knows what they're up against.

TEAL'C: They, themselves may be Goa'Uld. Such a ruse would be keeping within their tacktics.

SAM: I don't think that's the case, Teal'C.

DANIEL: They call themselves ... our ... "Kindred".

HAMMOND: Some of whom have already met their deaths against a closed iris ... that's hardly the grounds upon which to build a dipliomatic relationship.

SERGENT DAVIS: (After the gang hears the gate starting) (Running up stairs) Sir, we have another off-world activation! (Runs back down the stairs) (The gang follows) (Running down stairs talking) We've made the adjustments to our equipment, Major. Two way communication shouldn't be a problem this time!

SAM: Thank you, Sergent. (She and Davis sit at the controls, the men in back of them)

MAN: This is Alar from the nation state of Euronda. If anyone can hear me ...

HAMMOND: (Interrupting) Alar, this is General Hammond of the United States Air Force ... can YOU hear ME?

ALAR: YES!! and may I say, General, your voice answers our prayers! (Shot goes to Sam who has a angsty look on her face)

HAMMOND: We've heard your message and are consitering your request for help.

ALAR: I am prepared to step thru the portal immediately.

HAMMOND: We can not allow that.

ALAR: May I ask why?

HAMMOND: We have in place an impenatrable shield called an IRIS, that would result in your death.

ALAR: (Shot goes to Sam ... gotta feel sorry for her! She cares!) Then, (Somberly) The three vollenteers we sent thru ... (Sam does her closed eyes thing.)

HAMMOND: There was no way to determine if they were friend or foe.

ALAR: I see ... and ... that is still the case ... clearly, we must gain your trust. (Alar appears on the monitors all over the room.)

DAVIS: (Looks around) They're transmitting visual.

SAM: How?!

ALAR: Clearly, you can see for yourself that we are ... kindred.

HAMMOND: We do.

ALAR: There is much my people can offer in exchange for your trust. If I could speak with you in person ...

HAMMOND: We need to know more about this enemy you're facing.

ALAR: We have co-existed on this world for centuries. Now, they occupy the majority of Euronda's land mass.

JACK: Rules out anybody WE know.

SAM: How have you managed to survive for so long?

ALAR: Our facility is deep underground. Protected by defence fields, and our weapons technology is far more surperior, but now, one or two of their bombers have penatrated our airspace each day ...

DANIEL: How did you find us?

ALAR: We discovered the stargate while creating the tunnels for our defences. There were writings on the antient stones ... (An explosion is heard, the visual gets scrambled a little) We are under attack, I MUST return to the war room ... (Pleading) Please! ... Help us! (He runs away, and the gate shuts down)

DANIEL: (Everyone is looking around) So, what do we do?

TEAL'C: There is nothing we can do, Daniel Jackson, without the coordinates to their world.

SAM: We've got them! (Jack looks at her with a raised eyebrow) He transmitted them before disengaging.

DANIEL: (During a briefing) I know it seems hopeless, and there's a lot of unanswered questions, but, this is the first time that desendants of Earth have actually called home. I mean, either we try to do ... something ... or we let them die.

JACK: (Looking at Hammond who looks at him) It's your call, Sir.

HAMMOND: Colonel ...

DANNY: Now, I already know what you're gonna say ...

HAMMOND: ... you have a go.

DANIEL: (Continues) ... but from a humanitarian (Jack looks at him) Point of view ... (It registers what Hammond said) ... (In the adorable way, ONLY Danny could) What?

HAMMOND: We can not and would not devoted the resorces to turn the tide of a world war. However, as Doctor Jackson pointed out, there arwe humanitarian concerns. We'll start with all the food and medical supplies you can take with you ... Major, perhaps ...

SAM: We're on it, Sir. (Everone gets up to leave)

HAMMOND: (Stopping Jack) Colonel ... humanitarian concerns aside, we may have found an advanced civilization willing to share technology with us to help us fight the Goa'Uld.

JACK: That's my thoughts, Sir.

HAMMOND: I've already talked to the president and joint chiefs. If the Eurondan government is open to trade, you're aurthorized to negotiate. (A MALP is sent thru) (From the control room microphone) SG-1, you are to report back within 24 hours, if you do not, your GDO's will be locked out.

JACK: (After saluting the General) (To Teal'C) You've got that look.

TEAL'C: To which look are you reffering, O'Neill?

DANIEL: The one that says "I have misgivings about this mission, but deep down, I know we're doing the right thing" ?

JACK: No, the other one.

DANIEL: (Thinks) Ohhhh ...

The step thru the gate, and feel the ground shaking. They hear ALAR moaning, and Sam runs to him.

ALAR: You have come!

SAM: It's Alar, Sir! I think he need medical attention!

Jack walks yup to them, an explosion happens, and nearly knocks him down.

DANIEL: (Strained) (Trying to help Alar up)Teal'C! Gimme a hand, here! (Teal'C goes to help him.)

MAN: (With gun) HALT! (Jack and Sam put up their guns.)

WOMAN: Disarm! NOW! (Teal'C, who's holding Alar up, sticks out his ZAT gun) Where did you come from?!

ALAR: These are our Kindred of Earth! They have come to save us. (Lady puts gun down, Jack hesitently puts his down. Alar recieves an injection in his neck, and sighs.) I was on my way to the ..."Stargate" ... to attempt to contact you again.

WOMAN: The defence field is down to minimum sustainable strength.

ALAR: (Deep sigh) I told you our kindred would come, Ferral.

FERRAL: You'll win the people's medal for this.

JACK: (Playing with globe on desk) Bombing's eased up.

ALAR: We are far more protected here where the defence field is strongest, then in the tunnels where we discovered the stargate.

JACK: How's your head?

ALAR: Well enough to show you WHAT you have come to save. (Groans)

SAM: Take it easy, Alar. You might have a concussion.

ALAR: No, our beta canteen insures an immediate recovery, Major. I'm quite fine.

TEAL'C: (Walking up with Danny) Supplies are being distributed as we speak.

DANIEL: Apparently, they need ... everything.

ALAR: (Looking at Teal'C strangely) Who is this?

DANIEL: Uh ... Alar, this is Teal'C. (Teal'C nods)

ALAR: You are not of their kin.

TEAL'C: I am, in fact, a Jaffa ... though, like you, my ansestors are desendants of the Tau'Ri.

DANIEL: Uh, the Tau'Ri is ... Earth. (Alar looks at Jack)

JACK: He's part of our team.

ALAR:  Is he? (Hesitantly) Then ... welcome. (Everyone looks at each other.) COME!

TEAL'C: You appear to be a leader among your people.

ALAR: I am accorded the respect of my father ... he was a leader when the war began. Now that we are fewer in numbers, we all share in the daily work.

DANIEL: You DO know that the stargate is capeable of transporting your people to OTHER worlds?

ALAR: Yes, that seemed apparent.

DANIEL: Then why don't you evacuate thru the stargate?

ALAR: Because of what I'm about to show you ... (He opens the door to a huge room)

SAM: They're in stasis.

ALAR: Their auganomic functions have been regulated so that their hearts beat only once every few minutes. (He QUICKLY passes his hand over the panel, changing pictures is shown) We had little choice but to live underground in this facility. Resourses are limited. This is the only way to preserve the generation of my father.

TEAL'C: May they be revived again?

ALAR: Not until the day we reclaim our world.

DANIEL: How many are there?

ALAR: Thousands in here ... thousands more in another chamber like this one ... (Shot goes to Jack looking around) ... awaiting the end of a war that will not end. (He walks away, SG-1 look at each other, and then follow him) (They walk in the "War" room.) From this room, we conduct our national defence.

SAM: For all of Euronda?

ALAR: Yes.

MAN: A single enemy recon drone approaches our airspace, Sir.

ALAR: Thank you, Controller. Each station is capeable of piloting a formation of unmanned airofighters. Because of these Men and Women, enemy bombers rarely return home.

TEAL'C: Most impressive.

JACK: What about ground attack?

ALAR: The pilots are capeable of detering it, but the enemy hasn't risked a ground attack in several years.

TEAL'C: For what reason? You are both outnumbered and surrounded. Why would they not press their advantage?

FERRAL: The atmosphere of Eurona has been poisoned since the war began. The surface is unliveable.

DANIEL: Um ... um ... (Clears throat) forgive me if this sounds uh ... What is there left to fight over?

ALAR: It will not all ways be this way. (Points to table) An enemy craft is apporaching our parimeter ... would any of you care to attempt to shoot it down?

FERRAL: The target is nearly an unmanned recognesis drone. It's looking for bomb damage.

JACK: UN Manned?

ALAR: Think of it as a demenstration, Colonel. Are not your people more willing to come forth with assistance if you know what we have to offer?

JACK: (After Sam raises her eyebrows, and cocks her head toward him) Sure. (Sits down in machine) So, does this thing take quarters, or ...

FERRAL: You'll find the weapons system most intuative. The hand controls are secondary. Targeting and vectoring occur as a direct result of neuro interface.

JACK: Carter?

SAM: Uh, it'll do whatever your mind wants it to do, Sir.

JACK: Ah! (Smiles) WHOA! (a light passes infront of him) Thing's fast.

FERRAL: You are pioleting several arofighters at once in formation.

JACK: YEah, got it ... 11:00 ... Looks like a biplane. (He lines up the target, and fires.) Nice.

ALAR: Well done.

JACK: Yeah! Not bad! (Looks at man in next chair.) Not bad for an old guy, huh? What's with him?

ALAR: Olan is one of ouor best pilots, Colonel. But, he's spent most of his adult like in that chair, and years of exposure to the neuro interface is damaging. Very few of us, including myself can ever pilot again without risking what has happened to Olan.

JACK: Excuse me?!

ALAR: (Chuckles) Rest assured, Colonel. Your brief exposure with cause you no harm. Now, come! Let us celebrate our new alliance. (Jack looks at Olan, who has his mouth open, and rubs his jaw.) (In the dining room) I entended to save this bottle until the end of the war. May the friendship between our worlds be the first step toward that end. (Holds up glass of Wine) To Friendship!

FERRAL: To friendship.

DANIEL: Friendship.

SAM: Friendship.

JACK: Friendship. (They all drink) (Jack smells it, then drinks)

ALAR: (Noticing Teal'C's full glass sitting infront of him.) You ... did not join in the pledge.

TEAL'C: I do not consume alcohol.

ALAR: Ah!

FERRAL: Were you impressed by our weapons system, Colonel O'Neill?

JACK: Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah! We'll take a dozen! (Everyone laughs)

FERRAL: This food you've brought is most flavorful.

JACK: We can do much better, believe me.

FERRAL: You must understand that we have survived on nothing but hydroplonically grown yeast for many years.

DANIEL: Is THAT what this is?!

SAM: Your power generation requirements must be enormous.

ALAR: Do you not utalize controlled fusion on earth?

JACK: *Controlled ...* (Smiles, and shakes head)

ALAR: It is a most efficient means of power generation ... unfortunally the tutarian oxide fuel we require to operate our reators is now in short supply.

SAM: Heavy water! It's like regular water, Sir, except it's hydrogen nucleus contains two ...

JACK: (VERY Cocky) I KNOW what heavy water is, Major!  her lip ... I would have decked hi ...  And if that's what the Eurondens need, that's what we'll get them.

ALAR:  In return, we can teach your people how to construct weapons systems such as ours ... erofighters, stasis devises, fusion reactors ...

JACK: Sounds fair. (Looks at Sam) OK?

SAM: Medicine, Sir ...

JACK: Oh! Right! Uh ... we were very impressed with the beta cara ... candy ... stuff ...

ALAR: Beta cantein ... of course!

DANIEL: Jack ... (Pauses)

JACK: Daniel ...

DANIEL: Shouldn't we ask them what they want the heavy water for?

JACK: Oh, no, I don't think so ...

ALAR: The power generated by your heavy water would be used to reenforse our defences, Doctor Jackson.

JACK: (Raises eyebrow Danny) Daniel? (Daniel takes a sip of drink)

ALAR: ... and, in due course, to strike back at the enemy.

DANIEL: (putting drink down hard) JACK! (Getting pissed)

JACK: Daniel? (Still calm) Shouldn't we have this discussion some other time?

DANIEL: (Calmer now) No! I ... don't think so ... (Jack just gives him a dirty look)

ALAR: Surely you can understand our desire to end this war that has lasted for a generation ...

DANIEL: No, I do understand that, Alar, I do, it's just ... it's just that ... the stargate ... because it's capeable of transporting your people to another world entirerly ...

ALAR: But I have told you, thousands of our people are in stasis ...

DANIEL: Well, take em out of stasis, and find a new home.

ALAR: Then what would all this have been for? THIS ... is our home!

DANIEL: I'm sorry, I just don't understand why you would want to (Jack's getting pissed!) continue to fight a war when there's another choice.

JACK: Daniel ... you heard the man.

DANIEL: You said yoourself that the atmosphere was poisoned ... what is there left to win?

The ground, glasses, and chandelier starts shaking.

CONTROLLER: Alar, and enemy bomber has penatrated the outer perimeter.

FERRAL: Defence stations.

ALAR: Please excuse us. We;ll be in the War Room once you reach you decision.

JACK: Next time i tell you to shut up ...

DANIEL: I didn't hear you tell me to "Shut up".

JACK: Too suttle for ya?

DANIEL: For once, yes. Would you hear me out ...?

JACK: (Standing) Carter? Our standing orders ... what are they?

SAM: To ... seek new allies, and percure technologies to aid in the defence against the Goa'Uld.

JACK: And have we carried out those orders?

DANIEL: We came here to HELP them. (Ground shakes again)

TEAL'C: (Looking up) Is that not what we are doing, DanielJackson?

DANIEL: No ... their who world is in flames, and we're offering gasoline ... how is that gonna help?

TEAL'C: (Cocks head) We are, in fact, offering water ...

JACK: (To Teal'C) Thank you!

DANIEL: I was speaking mediforically.

JACK: WEll, Stop it! ... You're not being fair to Teal'C. (Teal'C just looks confused) Decision's made.

DANIEL: This mission has never had anything to do with helping these people has it? We came here to help ourselves!

JACK: Carter, Take Daniel back with you ... tell Hammond we struck a deal.

SAM: Yes, Sir.

DANIEL: You don't give a DAMN what's gonna happen to them! You want their technology, and you're taking advantage of the situation!

JACK: (Ground's shaking again) (Yelling over rumbling) YES! YES, I AM DANIEL! (Rumbing calmed a little) They're getting something they want, we're getting something WE want! I don't have a problem with that! (To Sam) CARTER!

SAM: We're on our way, Sir.

DANIEL: This conversation isn't over!

JACK: Oh, you're right, Daniel! It's NEVER over with you! (More shaking) It's always the same damn thing!

DANIEL: This has got nothing to do with me!

JACK: Do you ever realize what they're offering?

DANIEL: But at what price?

JACK: (Whispers) Oh, for cryin' out loud!

DANIEL: Where ya goin'?

JACK : To see what I can do to help!

Jack leaves, follows by Teal'C. Sam stands at the door for Danny to proceed her, then leaves.

At the base ...

SAM: I am not defending him, Daniel! I just happen to agree with him!

DANIEL: Well, don't you realize what we would be doing?

HAMMOND: Major? Doctor?

SAM: (Looks at Daniel, who's appearing to be busy) Sir, Colonel O'Neill has negotiated access and avaliability to almost every Eurondan technology. In exchange for an unspecified quantity of Heavy Water.

HAMMOND: That's all they want?

SAM: That's all.

HAMMOND: What do they want it for?

DANIEL: Thank you! Thank you for asking the question.

SAM: As you know, Sir, Heavy Water contains tutarium.

HAMMOND: Which can be used to make nuclear power.

SAM: Yes, but they use it to fuel nuclear fusion generators.

HAMMOND: Fusion?

SAM: According to Alar, the additional power would be enough to stave off defeat.

HAMMOND: They're willing to share THAT technology as well?

DANIEL: Of course, they're willing ... they're despirate!

SAM: Yes, Sir... everything! and it is incrediable! They're at least 100 years ahead of us ... maybe more! But, if we don't act soon, they are going to be over run.

HAMMOND: Sergent Siler?

SILER: I'll get right on it, Sir.

HAMMOND: (Off of Daniel's weary look) Doctor, you don't approve?

DANIEL: You said yourself, we could not and would not devote the resourses necessary to win a war ... wha ...

HAMMOND: Obviously, I was speaking in terms of military assets ... human lives.

DANIEL: But, there was a moral issue?

HAMMOND: Yes.

DANIEL: But if we could provide the power of all that and more in the form of water, then the moral issue just ... evaporates?

HAMMOND: (Pissed look, but calm voice) I shouldn't have to remind YOU ... that Apophis is alive, and at present, capeable of wiping us from the face of this Earth without contest. It is the mandate of this organization to make sure THAT doesn't happen!

DANIEL: I understand that ... I do. We've only ever seen one side of this ... dowe even know why they're fighting?

SAM: For their lives.

DANIEL: Yes! Yes, and I was all for saving those lives, but we're about to go way, way ... WAY beyond that. We're about to turn the tide of a world war we know nothing about against an enemy that we know nothing about. Is that the right way to get their technology? Yes! But ... is it ... the right thing to do?

SAM: It's a fair question, Sir.

DANIEL: Yes ... it is.

FERRAL:  How long?

TEAL'C: MajorCarter and Daniel Jackson will return as soon as they are able.

FERRAL: There are too many!

JACK: Use a couple more pilots?

FERRAL: Yes!

MAN: Aerofighter squadron veckering target ... enemy bombering incoming bearing 0,0,mark 3 ...

JACK: Yeah, I see em.

ALAR: (Seeing the several barrels of heavy water Sam and Daniel brought) This was all you were able to bring?!

SAM: On short notice, yes.

ALAR: This short amount will not last a day!

SAM: There's more coming ... we thought it would be best to bring what little we could as soon as possible.

ALAR: (Despirately) More is on the way?! You are certain?!

SAM: Much more ... Yes! (She and Danny share a look)

ALAR: (To man) Add the fuel to the rectors, and set the defence field to full power. A demonstration to the enemy ... we must show them we are strong once more! (Explosion)

DANIEL: In the meantime, we have ... questions.

ALAR: Yes, yes ... as soon as the attack is over, we will provide all that we have promiced. (Sam and Danny share another look as an explosion goes off) Come! It isn't safe.

CONTROLLER: Enemy bombers over the city.

JACK: Teal'C, target the lead bomber, I'll take the other one.

TEAL'C: I have it, O'Neill. (Targets bomber, and blows it out of the sky, making it apparently hit outside the building cause something explodes)

SAM: That one sounded close.

ALAR: Directly above us in the old city. Let me show you another of the wonders we intend to share with you for all you've done. (Touches wall, which disappears) The field generator is capeable of repelling the force of many bombs like a great shield. It saved our people from destruction my entire life. You see? The fuel you brought has strengthened it again.

SAM: How long will that last?

ALAR: For several hours.

SAM: I'm certain we'll be able to send more heavy water by then.

ALAR: Yeah.

JACK: Mine's gone for the deck. (The bomber flies by the buildings trying to avoid Jack, to no avail. Jack shoots the bomber ... it comes back at Jack's gun, and two people are seen driving the bomber before a bright light shines in Jack's eyes, making him cover his eyes. ) GOD!

TEAL'C: O'Neill? Are you all right?!

MAN: Enemy bomber destroyed.

JACK: Yeah, what the hell was that?!

FERRAL: The lead erofighter in your formation struck an enemy bomber head on.

JACK: I saw PEOPLE in that thing! You said they were unmanned!

FERRAL: I said the recognesis craft was an unmanned drone. It presented an easy target, and therefore, a suitable demonstration. (Jack look pissed!) But their bombers ARE manned. You have killed several of our enemy, Colonel ... and we are grateful.

Back to meeting room.

EURONDENS: (Raising their glasses) He is remembered.

TEAL'C: FOr whom do you pledge this remembrance?

ALAR: My father ... thru his vision, our nation has survived.

TEAL'C: I see. (Sounds kinda skeptical) (He and Alar share a stare down)

ALAR: It is customary among our people to formalize such agreements as ours. In exchange for all our knowledge, technology, medicines, Earth will provide us with however much heavy water we require to end this war once and for all. Do not be allarmed, Colonel. Just 3 or 4 times that which you have provided on a daily basis.

SAM: That adds up to several metric tons a year, Sir.

ALAR: Which is a small price to pay for what we have to offer in return.

THALMA: Alar, Listen. (Silence)

JACK: (10 second later) What?

ALAR: Silence. (Chuckles) I hardly recognize it. When at full strength, our defence field make us as invonerable as when I was a boy. I propose we write down on paper what we all ready share in our hearts.

DANIEL: (Clears his throat loudly) Um, before we do that, I have a question.

SAM: (Off of Jack's look and sigh) General Hammond also would like to know, Sir.

ALAR: It's allright, Colonel. I don't mind.

DANNY: How did this war start?

ALAR: The first enemy bombs fell along Euronda in a surprise attack. I was a boy of 9. I remember that night. I remember the floor of the room in which my father sequestered me SHOOK with each explosion ... I remember ... knowing that each bomber got thru ... ment ... that another building, another HOME ... another street in the city above me ... is gone. That is how this war began, Doctor.

DANIEL: And for that ... we only have your word. (Jack closes his eyes)

ALAR: Three of our best men died attempting to reach Earth thru your stargate.

DANIEL: Well, that was an accident.

ALAR: And we have only YOUR word. (Long moment of silence while Daniel and Sam look at each other)

JACK: (Rather sarcastically) Any more question, DANIEL?

DANNY: Yes. Uh ... I'd like to know a little more about your enemy. (Jack closes his eyes tightly)

ALAR: (Nervously) Is this ... part of your barganing process , Colonel?

JACK: NOT normally.

ALAR: What more can we offer you than everything we have?

DANIEL: Then why don't you just answer the question?

ALAR: Colonel O'Neill? Do we have an agreement?

JACK: We do.

DANIEL: Jack ...

JACK: DANIEL! ... (Quieter) Shut up... Is THAT clear enough?

SAM: (After a moment of silence) Sir, if you're gonna go back and tell General Hammond, I would like to stay here and take a look at their fusion technology.

JACK: FINE! (Takes a sip of drink)

ALAR: It would be my pleasure to show you personally. (Sam looks at Jack, and gets up. Daniel remains silent, but you could tell he wants to say something.) I understand you shot down one of our enemy bombers, Colonel. Congratulations ... perhaps you'll try it again.

JACK: I don't ... think so!

ALAR: Well, if you're conserned about lives lost, remember, they're YOUR enemy now. I look forward to your return. Which reminds me ... perhaps it would be best if ... if the jaffa did not return.

JACK: Teal'C? Why? He hasn't said a word.

ALAR: It's not what he said ... it's what he IS.

JACK: Well, he's different. I'll grant you that.

ALAR: NOT like us. (Meaning not white, and Jack got a little light bulb)

JACK: Right.

ALAR: Major Carter! After you. (Jack has a disbelieving look on his face. Daniel comes up to the DHD, and starts dialing the address. He puts in the first point, and raises his hand for the second. Jack grabs his hand, stopping him.)

JACK: We're not going.

DANIEL: Why?

JACK: Teal'C and I are gonna have a look around first. You ... ask questions.

DANIEL: I thought you told me to ...

JACK: I KNOW what I said, Daniel ... it was rude, & short sided, & I'm sorry.

DANIEL: (Confused) Well, thank you for ... recognizing that.

JACK: Now, I'm saying this ... go ask questions... LOTS of questions!

ALAR: One single fusion reactor is capeable of generating power for the entire facility. I assume you extract tutarium from sea water?

SAM: Yes. 70% of the Earth's surface is ocean, so Heavy Water production shouldn't be a problem.

ALAR: The sea in which we used to extract heavy water as you call it, is now in enemy hands hundreds of miles away. You can see that the storage tanks are nearly empty.

SAM: You must have been building this place long before the war started.

ALAR: The war was inevidable.

SAM: Well, how long did you expect to stay down here?

ALAR: Until the air is free from poison. Excuse me. (Sam looks at the plans in confusion.)

JACK: So, what's your impression of Alar?

TEAL'C: That he is conceling something.

JACK: Like what?

TEAL'C: I am not sure ... but he is conseling it. (Teal'C ZATS the door to the stasis room) (Jack passes his hand SLOWLY over the console.) What is it, O'Neill?

JACK: They're the same! (Continues to pass hand slowly over console, disbelieving) Every DAMN one of em's the same!

DANIEL Hey, Ferral.

FERRAL: Doctor.

DANIEL: Uh ... I just thought that since we're gonna be allies, I thought we should get to know a little bit about our new enemy. OK! uh ... you call them the enemy? Um ... understandably they're ... your enemy ... but, uh ... they must have a name. For example: I'm American. My grandfather was Dutch ... what do you ... call them?

FERRAL: Sometimes we call them breeders.

DANIEL: Breeders?

FERRAL: How they reproduce. Indescriminately ... with no reguard for Genetic purity.

DANIEL: (Realization just hit him!) Really? So ... they come in all shapes and sizes.

FERREL: Yes.

DANNY: And colors?

FERRAL: Yes!

DANIEL: (Dumbfounded) Really?

ALAR: This storage facility contains plans, specifications, and formulas upon which our technology is based. Together, I'm sure we can find a way to transfer the information to your computers.

SAM: Alar, these pipes extend from the lowest level right up to the surface.

ALAR: Yes.

SAM: But you said the atmosphere was poisoned. It doesn't make any sense!

MAN: Enemy bombers aproach the perimeter.

ALAR: Engage them!

DANIEL: Jack!

JACK: What'd you find out?

DANIEL: ThEY did it! They started the war ... I don't know how, but they did it!

ALAR: Where is the fuel?

JACK: There's been a delay.

ALAR: What sort of delay?! The enemy is attacking in forse, we NEED that fuel!

JACK: We just have to buy a little time ... Teal'C and I could help fight em off until it gets here.

ALAR: Do it!

JACK: Stay on my wing, Teal'C.

SAM: It was a preempted strike! Your enemy. When they began bombing, they were trying to STOP you!

ALAR: Now is not the time, MAJOR!

FERRAL: The defence field is at minimum sustainable strength.

ALAR: Transfer energy from the stasis room.

SAM: (To Daniel) The Eurondans built this place long before the war started. They PLANNED it from the beginning!

DANIEL: All right. But how do they expect to win a war from underground?

SAM: There are enormous gas pipes that run from holding facilities all the way up to the surface.

DANIEL: And the surface is poisoned!

SAM: They didn't just START a WAR, they were trying to exterminate them!

ALAR: It was HIS vision! My father saw that breeders were spreading across the face like a plague. MILLIONS of them! We don't know how so many of the managed to survive. But they do in spite of our best efforts. Contact your General Hammond! Tell him we need that fuel IMMEDIATELY!

DANIEL: We're not gonna do that.

ALAR: ARMS! (Men come with guns and point it at Sam and Danny) (Slowly, and sounding really pissed!) CONTACT ... YOUR ... GENERAL ... HAMMOND! (Shot goes to Jack helping the bombers)

FERRAL: They're escorting the enemy bombers!

ALAR: WHAT?!?!

FARREL: He's attacking our own fighters!

ALAR: STOP HIM! AH! (Alar's on his knees holding his hands.) (Jack drives the craft right into the ground, making the tunnels shake.) (Jack gets out the thing, and goes with his team.)  IT COULD HAVE ALL BEEN YOURS!!!!

JACK: I wouldn't follow us if I were you.

ALAR: NO!

JACK: (After Danny opens the gate, to Daniel and Teal'C) GO!

Sam and Jack are shooting the men who are shooting at them. They make a run for the gate.

ALAR: Wait! WAIT!!!! (Jack and Sam both stop, and turn at the gate.) I could teach you everything I know! Just let me come with you! (Emotionless face on Jack) PLEASE! (The two soldiers go thru the gate.)

On the other side, Sam is standing facing the open gate. Jack walks thru slowly.

JACK: (Looking at Sam) Close the iris.

HAMMOND: Do it! (An impact is seen on the screen before the gate closes.) I take it, Colonel, you were unable to encure Eurondan technology?

JACK: (Looks away from Sam to look at Hammond) That's correct, Sir.

HAMMOND: I'm sorry to hear that.

JACK: (Looks back at Sam) Don't be.

HAMMOND: We'll debrief in one hour.

JACK: (Looking at Hammond for a second) Yes, Sir. (Sam stands there looking at him for 5 more seconds, then turns and walks off the ramp. He has an impassive look on his face.)
